Flash Help

Okay, I feel like a total damn noob here, but I can't get Flash to work anymore. I can't see pictures on posts, but I can see ads. I can't see the imbedded movie pictures like the Lieberman ad and my computer won't even load a page like youtube.

I have tried updating, I've tried doing away with Flash and reinstalling. I'm about to uninstall firefox and redo the whole damn thing but I hate to lose all the info.

Anyone know what the issue is?

I even found the official uninstaller

on the flash wbsite. Then, when the mozilla page said "You need a different plugin" I followed its instructions. Still no video preview.

Memory fails me...

Robert,

I was having similar troubles with firefox (on OSX). Finally I gave up and did the following:

0. I downloaded the latest version of firefox.
1. I exported my bookmarks.
2. I deleted firefox and all the hard to find files that firefox/mozilla depend on (I can tell you where they are on OSX but not windows).
3. I installed firefox.
4. I installed the firefox extensions I need (Adblock, Tab Mix Plus, Sage, Flashblock, plus a few others that I use for geeky things).

But you know what? I can't remember if I had to do anything to get flash to work. I kind of think that I didn't have to do any further downloading, but I'm not sure.

But flash does work now, and because of Flashblock, I see flash previews in BlueNC with buttons in the middle. Clicking them makes them run.

Sorry I can't be more help.

are you using the "adblock" extension?

it's a longshot, but you might want to check for an update; the problem you described sounds like a problem i was having a while back. updating to the most recent version at the time fixed it.

the only problem i have with adblock now is that i somehow blocked the embedded flash music player that shows up on myspace music in a fit of applying wild cards. which isn't a big deal, seeing as how most music on myspace pretty much stinks. :)

nope.

I exported my bookmarks, deleted everything to do with firefox, reinstalled it, imported my bookmarks, still no go. It must have something to do with Flash.

Is there an alternative?

I deleted Quicktime

and before I could even reinstall it things were back to normal.

Damn quicktime...

SD, I thought I e-mailed you the pictures. If I didn't let me know, and I'll try it again. I don't have the e-mail address to send it directly to him.

I had a couple of Flash problems when 10.4 first came out but since point seven, it's been dreamy.

Once Upon a Time

I screwed around with Firefox until it melted down into a quivering mound of jello. Totally my fault (though I'm not suggesting that the current situation is yours. Here's what I did:

  1. backed up the profile folder (here's how to find that)
  2. deleted the profile folder
  3. uninstalled firefox completely, then reinstalled
  4. slowly started moving things that matter to me back into the new profile folder from my backup of the old -- including bookmarks, browser history, etc.

That all went well for me. Right now I'm using the beta Firefox 2.0 and I love it—inline spell check, browser session restore feature in case of crash, including that the browser retains what I've typed into boxes like this one even if I haven't saved it! That beta can be got here (just the .exe). You can even keep using your otherwise-incompatible 1.5 extensions if you use this extension here to make them compatible. Hope that helps!

I have gone even farther than that.

I got rid of everything but my bookmarks, which I exported. I deleted all files that were related to:

firefox
flash
quicktime

I deleted all of these, reinstalled firefox, got the message saying a plugin was missing, clicked on that and installed Flash, now it still doesn't work.

Somehow, installing flash is not working on my computer. is there a security problem I might have? A button I clicked, a setting I changed?

That sounds pretty bad.

Does flash stuff work in IE?

This is even nuttier...

i can get Flash things to load at the flash homepage and on other websites around the net, but not at MYDD, DailyKos, or YouTube.

Hey!

It's working.

I have done so much crap, so much installing and uninstalling and moving plugins and stuff, I have no idea...
