Kissell Leads Hayes in Newest 8th District Poll

The most recent poll is out for North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District race and it shows Larry Kissell leading Robin Hayes in a pure unadulterated head-to-head match up. The poll, conducted by Anzalone Liszt, shows Kissell at 45% and Hayes at 43%.

Kissell's National Media Director, Ben Chao, of FRCR, Inc. told a large group of Kissell supporters this morning that when looking at congressional races:

Larry Kissell is the only challenger in America who is leading the incumbent.

As James and Tom Jensen predicted, Hayes must be receiving some terrible numbers from his own internal polls. Otherwise, he would never have gone so negative, so early. His first attack ad was running during the time this poll was in the field. As bad as that ad was, it had to hurt Larry’s numbers a little bit and yet, Larry Kissell is still in the lead.

In 2006, Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post said that Kissell “captured lightning in a bottle,” in 2006. It looks like lightning is going to strike twice.

North Carolina's 8th Congressional district continues to trend Democratic. Democrats now have a 17-point advantage over Republicans on the generic ballot (49% Democrat / 32% Republican), a total gain of eight points for Democrats since May 2007 (42% Democratic / 33% Republican).

As you can see from the numbers, the district is trending Democratic, much more so than it did in 2006. This spells trouble for both Robin Hayes and John McCain since many of those new Democrats are not George Bush Democrats.

In a head-to-head match up between John McCain and Barack Obama in this previously conservative district that voted twice for George Bush, Barack Obama wins big, with those polled going 50% for Obama and only 37% for McCain.

I think Larry Kissell just found his 330 new Democratic voters. Let’s make sure he reaches every single one of them.

Sorry we don't have the polling memorandum

It will go up very soon.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Great News for Larry

This is great news for Larry. Not having seen the internals from the poll, I would guess that there is still room for Larry to grow. I know in the past that Larry's name ID was still lower than Hayes by a big margin. I can't wait to see Larry in DC taking an oath of office pretty soon (knock on wood, cross your fingers, etc).

You're right, Blue South

There's almost no room for Robin Hayes to grow in name recognition and plenty of room for Larry to grow.

Just as Important

People dont think he is doing a horrible job. Its not like 80% of the district thinks Robin Hayes is bad. Rather people are ready for a change. Over 2/3 of the district knows that we need to see some big changes in Washington, and Robin Hayes is nothing but the status quo.

"Keep the Faith"

EDIT- Missed this the first time through. 55% of the District thinks that the Democratic Leadership is doing a good job! That is great news for Larry.

I updated the memo link

and added a quote from Ben Chao, Larry's National Media Director.

I mean...last cycle Larry didn't have a National Media Director. :D I think maybe we were his national media directors.

Such great news!

Now we just need to do our part!

A candidate you can believe in!

Sure hope we go all the way to Washington this time. It permanently alienated me from the national congressional democrats and Rahm Emanuel. They may be perfectly nice but when they hounded me for money for them to spend, after not supporting Larry, I was very galled. Never much of an account that they had made a mistake.

Wrong tree to bark up.

That ad was PATHETIC

Just say Hayes' attack ad on Kissell. Unbelievable.

Kissell is a high school teacher. What employees is Hayes talking about? Oh yeah, it says, "Source: FEC filings" -- must be talking about his campaign workers. "It cheats all of us?" "Is it legal? Larry Kissell doesn't care." WTF?

So he's not paying taxes on his campaign workers. That means his paid staffers are working as consultants, as opposed to employees, so they'll get 1099s instead of W2s.

So what? Political campaigns are by nature temporary employment, with lots of self-direction -- thus it's perfectly legitimate to pay folks as consultants.

That advertisement says more about Hayes than it does about Kissell. It says that Hayes is a nasty person who tells lies, and thinks his constituents are stupid and incapable of seeing through the most obvious distortions of reality.

And how can some still *not* believe we were sold a war in Iraq the way Nike would sell us a pair of $200 sneakers?

Will be interesting to see if his constituents *are* stupid. After all, we get the government we deserve.

I know some republicans who are going to be donating to Kissell this time around. We deserve better.
