Kissell Named to Armed Services Committee

Did you receive his new flyer today? I was reading along and enjoying it for the most part until I got to the paragraph....Kissell Builds Bi-Partisan Support to Improve, Maintain Military Housing. Being from a military community I liked that until I read, "With reports of substandard barracks at Fort Bragg, Congressman Kissell reached across the aisle to craft a bill with Republican Rep.
Virginia Foxx (NC-5) that addresses the problem." I have been quiet after his wrong-headed votes, but when he reached across the aisle, is she the only one he could find? Does anybody else feel like a fool. I feel like I'm one of the biggest and I'm admitting it.

One is born every day

In my case it was October 14

North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!

It does seem like there are better hands to reach out to in NC.

Heck, even Howard Coble would be a better ally to have. Bragg is not in his district, but many of his constituents work there and are affected by everything that goes on there. (As I write this, the pictures on my wall are shaking with the reverberations of someone practicing something over there.)

Virginia Foxx??? All I can say is - Oh Larry. Really?? REALLY????

Virginia Foxx

isn't even close. She's in Winston Salem. How about Walter Jones if he wanted to cross the aisle. He has the marines, and sometimes he votes with the dems. I can't believe he has teamed up with her.

Looks like LOTS of Dems crossed the aisle on this one

Curiosity got the better of me. Had to see what all the fuss was about before jumping to conclusions of my own.

U.S. House OKs Foxx's barracks bill

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House passed a bill yesterday that is designed to improve housing for soldiers living in Army barracks.

Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-5th, sponsored the bill, which is called the Sustain, Support and Defend Act of 2009. It involves expanding a pilot program called the First Sergeant's Barracks Initiative to Army bases across the country...

The House approved the bill 389-22. It now moves to the U.S. Senate.

It was Foxx's bill. Kissell, being on Armed Services, along with three other democrats and three Republicans co-sponsored it. Most all Democrats as well as Republicans approved it. Bi-partisanship at it's finest.

I guess sometimes it's just about the results, not the politics.

It is relatively common for Dem & Rep reps to cross the aisle

to co-sponsor when the legislation has broad support of is something like naming a post office.

Twenty-two House members didn't find it so common

And I can only assume from the original poster's tirade against Kissell that Watt, Miller, Etheridge, Shuler, Butterfield, Price and my own bane McIntyre were among the 22 members in all of Congress against the Sustain, Support, and Defend Act of 2009.

If not, I don't see the point in any of this.

This is not about the bill.

This is about Larry "reaching across the aisle to craft a bill 'with' Republican Rep. Virginia Foxx (NC-5)". It is more about her than anything. Or you can say it is more about me. I don't care. What I do care about is that my congressman is teaming up with her and is proud of it. Please. Have you been watching her in action? The truth is, most of the people in the 8th district don't even know who Virginia Foxx is. They don't know how anybody votes. All they know is that they like Larry. This is my place to vent. I thought that is why BlueNC was here in the first place.

The woman is pretty vile

and I'd really rather not claim her for NC. I'm wondering if it has more to do with committee position than anything else. I don't mind reaching across the aisle, but reaching across to someone so petty, vindictive and dishonest is not very inspiring.

Didn't mean to upset you

And I obviously don't get the nuances here, but for the record my comments were about the bill.

It was Foxx's bill, and previous posters had made it sound like Larry could have just "reached out" to David Price or Howard Coble or anyone but the bill's actual author to give input on behalf of his Fayetteville military family constituents, and that made no sense.

I'm all for criticism, but the facts help make them stick.

I wish everybody

had received the flyer. It sounds as if Virginia Foxx and Larry crafted (his word) the bill together. I think it is time for me to bow out. The people here who know me know what I am saying.

Quick question: what is this?

Did you receive his new flyer today?

Are you talking about an actual snail-mail flyer, or an e-mail update thingie? Because I just realized that I haven't received anything from Larry in a long time. If he's still sending out e-mails, that means I've been scrubbed from his list for some (unknown) reason.

Friday

I received it Friday.

Snail Mail

My brother who also lives in the 8th District said he didn't receive it either. He said he hasn't gotten anything from him in ages.

Lovex7

Geeze

I need to quit posting or start editing. Can't get my tenses straight.

Lovex7

You know

we're grading for that now. :D

Damn, I knew it.

I'll probably never get into Harvard. Maybe not even Wake or Fayetteville Tech. :-)

English Major

You don't understand. My mother was an English major. Try growing up with one of those. If she could see how much I have slipped...OMG. You never get over things like that. :-D
Thanks for the link.
