Michael Phelps Smokes Pot, Deal With It

Lord forbid that we actually have a real discussion about marijuana, its use and its abuse. No, we have to turn this into a witch-hunt where Michael Phelps is bad, bad, bad becuase AAAAAAH MYYYY GAWWWWD he smokes pot!

Please, everyone who hasn't smoked pot raise your hand? One, two, three, four.

Now, everyone who knows somebody who had their life ruined by pot raise your hand. Okay, no one.

Now everyone who knows somebody who had their life ruined by alcohol raise your hand. One, two, three, four....four million.

Yeah, what a load of crap. If I were Michael Phelps I would man up and talk about pot for what it is, less addictive and less destructive than alcohol. He should know, he's been arrested for DUI back when he was 19!

War on Drugs = Total FAIL

Maybe the downturn will cause the old men running government to finally take some action on the stupidity of criminalizing drugs. Didn't work with Prohibition, isn't working now.

The Big Bad Business of Arms and Prisons, Inc., plus a handful of nut job Republicans like the NC Family Policy Council are the only ones with a vested interest in the Holy War on Drugs.

Grass is good !

I put that "subject line" in to get attention.

Look, y'all, in my younger years, I smoked a WalMart building full of grass. Yeah, yeah...old ex-repug Smitty. Most of us in the '60's military/Nam generation did that. I never, EVER, had the inclination to drive somewhere doing that. It was: "man, I'm not goin' anywhere....where's the brownies....say something funny"

Now, I know there are drugs out there that are just too addictive and that cause crime and that ruin lives. No doubt. Anyone that posts here saying that's not true just doesn't accept the truth. But, Marijuana ISN'T one of those. I don't care if an Olympic gold medal winner smokes pot. What's the big deal? Oh...I know, it doesn't send the right message. So, the right message is zoning out every day on martini's or Jose' Gold or Jack Black.

This is just such a HYPOCRITICAL thing.

Grass needs to be legalized. It will lower the cost...won't cause anywhere NEAR the harm of alcohol and will generate tax revenue.

NEXT ISSUE.

"Man Up"

Are you saying he's a pansy? :-)

Seriously, the only thing that disappoints me about this is that it was a dumb move on his part to jeopardise some of his income.

The only thing that disappoints me

is that he hangs around with someone stupid enough to take that picture and then let it get out on the internet. Choose your friends better Michael.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

I don't support this behavior

I don't support this behavior and I want to see the substance (and others) continually classified as illicit. On the other hand, I don't believe in the war on drugs. If you happen to find a dealer of any illegal substance, then great arrest, charge, and convict them. But I don't believe in actively going out and snooping them out. Now child predators on the other hand, I do believe in actively snooping them out, but who doesn't agree with that other than the predators?

I hope you also support prohibition.

Since alcohol is a bazillion times more addictive and dangerous than marijuana.

No doubt you are against Genric Jewish Hotdogs at Chicago Cubs Games. Are you ready to dig up George Washingto Grave and arrest him for being the biggest Hemp pusher on the planet during his crimial career?

I have nothing against hemp,

I have nothing against hemp, but the chemical substances that can be derived from it. I'm not an advocate of alcohol nor do I consume it (and can't, legally). To each their own. I think this is a very minor issue in the grand scheme of things.

Really?

ALL issues...in their own right...are important. Ya can't discount one because another is deemed more important.

Up in Smoke Michael 2! He didn't inhaled I swear?

Good for you! Now lite up the Top Sail on the USS Contitution and smoke the Hemp ropes to show your support for Michael as a true free spirit of Liberty.........Of course it is a minor issue on the grand scheme of things......But the mainstream media and the Republican party think it is another sign of the end times along with President Obama.........

Did you say you don't drink??

If you don't...what's the cause of your "disorder"?

I mean, I get a BIG kick out of some of your posts...don't get me wrong...but, "ludicrous" doesn't even come CLOSE to some of them.

Guess your posts provide a good "break" from the reality we try to discuss here.

Whatever.

The pursuit of happiness is an

"inalienable right" as outlined in our Declaration of Independence. I've always wondered why no one used this defense. In my opinion your pursuit of happiness is fine as long as it doesn't restrict my life and liberty.

(This is my comment at the Dailykos thread about this very same thing.)

Some have said through the years that big tobacco or the liquor industry has been behind keeping mj illegal. I believe that the new prison industry has joined this battle.

Unfortunately, the pursuit of happiness

sometimes gets sidetracked in the snack aisle at the Quickie Mart. There's just...so many things to choose from...a flavor extravaganza...I just can't...OH MY GOD! There's a whole big bag of miniature Reese Cups left over from Halloween! Bingo!

Ha...Ha...

Been there.....done that.

I'm with ya, my man.

I once thought the handle on one of my kitchen cabinets was a Hershey Bar...

OOPS...probably shouldn't have shared that with you.

Tee Hee.

I can (barely) remember

the first time I tasted a Cheerwine:

"This is the greatest thing that's ever been invented!" :)

It was also the only drink that could save you from choking on one of those huge Grandma's Cookies.

The pursuit of happiness is a Right to own property

"inalienable right" as outlined in our Declaration of Independence. I've always wondered why no one used this defense.*M

Sorry! but the pursuit of happiness as first written by Thomas Jefferson had the word " property" in the first draft. Ben Franklin struck the term " property" from it and injected the term " pursuit of happiness" which meant "Happiness" was a benfit from owning property in the 3 rd and final draft..

Max, is this true or BS?

Does it truely mean that the only right to happiness we have is in owning property? I never know if you make this stuff up.

Momoaize! Max wouldn't pull your leg or own a slave!

Yep! Unless you were a ancient Roman or a slaveholder who slept with their property

he is still a kid

I appreciate that he did sort of "man up" and admit it(this mom gives points for honesty!)as he is a role model/hero figure for a lot of little swimmers out there. I wonder how some of these young athletes cope with the relentless pressure of training. Now we know, although staying out of South Carolina would probably be a good idea in the future, dude!

Having said that, while I think the plant itself is benign, the culture of growing it in national parks, complete with noxious pesticides, pollution, booby traps, etc. or on other people's land(happened to my family in Texas)is a health hazard. I would support it as a legal business here, but can't find it to think kindly toward the drug lords in Mexico who are ruining that country, and in some ways, in many ways, not doing ours any favors.

You make an excellent point, chun yang

The business of growing illegally is probably more dangerous for the general public than people actually using the product. Protecting the crops with guns, spraying them with noxious chemicals, etc. is way more hazardous than someone wandering down the aisle at the QuickieMart jonesing for munchies.

If this were a legal crop, taxes would have to be paid on the sale of it, and growers would be legal businessmen, who would also have to pay their taxes. Maybe NC wouldn't be in the hole so far if pot was a legitimate cash crop.

(by the way - it's great to see you back, chun yang!)

Redux.

He's already had to do the shame tour from his DUI back in 2004. I HOPE he doesn't do something like that again or else I hope he makes a spoof out of it.

Imagine how many people die in the illegal trade of an herb. Can you imagine if they made Valerian root illegal? There would be people dying all over the world trying to smuggle Valerian root.

Valerian, in pharmacology and phytotherapic medicine, is the name of a herb or dietary supplement prepared from roots of the plant, which, after maceration, trituration, dehydration processes, are conveniently packaged, usually into capsules, that may be used for certain effects including sedation and anxiolytic effect.

Oh right, Phelps smoking pot.

What was the question again?
