Military Turning On Bush

I was very glad to see this story about a retired general officer finally coming out about the disatrous tenure of Donald Rumsfeld. Read the whole article, which is a call for active duty military officers to go public in their disgust for AWOL George and his criminal war in Iraq.

"I retired from the military four months before the invasion, in part because of my opposition to those who had used 9/11's tragedy to hijack our security policy," General Newbold wrote.

It's about time.

What's kept him in office

all this time? Rumsfeld, I mean. Does he benefit from Bush's stubborn resistence to criticism? Or the Neocon's inability to find anyone else so corruptible?

Covered on Kos

My friend Sharon Jumper got this up on Kos yesterday and the discussion was both lively and interesting. Check it out.

Why can't Bush fire anyone?

Probably because he has no real world experience. He was given everything he has and never had to work for anything. Therefore, he doesn't know squat about work ethic and when people aren't living up to their abilities. It's all good in George's world.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.
-me

goes around/comes around

I've always wondered why government officials and military officers and just regular citizens in nazi Germany didn't stand up to atrocities and I guess now we know, first hand.

I'm going to retain my faith

that if this (or any other) administration moved into the genocide business the American people would have their asses.

“Of all the varieties of virtues, liberalism is the most beloved.” —Aristotle

but they wouldn't call it genocide

and the pundits would spin it as immigration reform or prison work camps (it's a pdf).

Who can be against some payback free labor from convicted criminals. Don't want to be buyin' 'em cable TV and all those luxuries when we could be getting some honest Amur-can work outta those good-fer-nothin' no-counts. And then who would be there to make note of it when some of 'em dropped dead from, say, heat exhaustion or whatnot?

Think about it. How many died in Katrina while we all watched on TV? Local coroners were excluded from the autopsies, right? So, we really have no idea what truly happened. No freakin' idea. Except that they were lying to us the whole time. You see, I watched the LA officials do the right thing in advance of the storm. I saw the predictions of a cat 5 to land just east of NO (the worst-case scenario for them). Then, two days later, I watched the feds lie and lie and lie about what they said the LA officials hadn't done. If you were free to watch the cable networks those days, it all unfolded right before your eyes. Lie after lie after lie while people died, while babies dehydrated. Right before my very eyes.

So for me, it's not so far a jump from that to genocide. And we watched it on TV. It's like someone was seein' how much we could take.

And while they were saying no one could get to the Superdome, some two Duke students drove down there, faked some press credentials and got right in. Any celebrity who wanted to pranced right into town without security, without protection of any kind. I've been wondering since September what the f*ck was going on with Katrina and since, then, I found all this official stuff on "prison" camps and now, out of nowhere, we have "immigration protests."

I'm startin' to feel like an old fashioned conspiracy theorist but all the dots are there. All ya gots ta do is connect 'em.

(If you only have time for one link, check the immigration one, it's the freakiest.)

Bush isn't Hitler

Bosnia; Rwanda; Sudan; Germany. Without denying that we have civil rights problems in this country, I think it's important to recognize that there are lines we have not crossed and are not near to crossing. There are evils greater and lesser, and it doesn't serve our causes to be ambiguous about the magnitude of the wrongs we hope address.

I don't mean to sound preachy; it's hard to avoid when you're talking about stuff like this.

yeah but just because the comparison

is not one of equivalence doesn't mean there aren't people (neocons) with bizarro plans that are capable of using him.

Don't let the bad comparison blind you to the reality of what's going on in front of your eyes. And I apologize for being so conspiracy theoryish, but it's also hard to avoid when you see the government documentation.

Who would have thought, in 1992, that Wolfowitz's obscure megalomanical plan would be implemented within 15 years?

And I'm not a citizen of the countries you've mentioned. I do not have the power to change things there that I may have here. So, I work on the wrongs I may be able to ameliorate and pray for the rest!

Agreed

I don't mean to diminish the gravity of this administration's crimes and errors, or to suggest that we shouldn't work for a better future.

Nothing wrong

with conspiracy theories when there are conspiracies. And it would be hard to describe the collusion of big bidness, right wing theocrats, and Bushbots as anything other than conspiracy. The only real difference is that they're not even trying to hide it.

I was pretty naive until I watched the first Survivor

It really opened my eyes to how people naturally collude and how others standing around right with them will not even notice -- that is, unless they have been trained to notice. And we Americans are trained not to notice by commercial television and our educational system (notice whose friends own the school book publishing companies???)
