Rahm Emanuel Headlines Fundraiser for Larry Kissell

We begged Rep. Rahm Emanuel to help Larry Kissell in his bid for the 8th Congressional District seat in 2006. Now that the dust has settled, Rahm is making his move.

Join Congressman Rahm Emanuel in supporting Larry Kissell in his renewed bid to oust Robin Hayes from congress. The fundraiser will be held this Saturday at NCDP Headquarters in Raleigh from 3:30 - 4:30pm. Tickets are $200 per person or $330 per couple.

As of last count, there are 72,788 more Democrats in the 8th District than there are Republicans and Larry just needs to reach 330 of them. Robin Hayes is in the worst financial situation he's seen in a while and he's facing the toughest opponent he's ever faced - for the second time.

I know it will be tempting to talk about what could have been with old Rahm, but don't fold to the temptation. He knows. Trust me. He knows.

Damn right he knows. . .

And being the bright lad that he is, the same mistake won't be repeated.

This is huge, and it's only the start.

Best wishes to Larry----I only wish he'd move to NC5 and go after that waste of space Foxx.

War is over if you want it.

I promised

the party that I would help do some pre-JJ work, meaning I have to be up in North Raleigh at 430. Ill try to swing by and say hello for a few minutes though.

Go, Larry, Go!

I spent all my $$ on the three JJ events for me and a lady, so won't be able to make it, but I hope Kissell cleans up! He came to the Cumberland County Convention as guest speaker (along w/ his wife). Every chance I get to speak w/ him, the more impressed I am with him. We (Cumberland County) have a lot to make up for him from 2006. We'll get those 330!

Any other events going on that weekend? I know the Wake County Women are doing a breakfast at the N. Raleigh Hilton on Sat. morning. I'll be going to Raleigh on Fri. straight from my contracts exam (attempting to drive w/ a crushed soul...), so looking for anything to do besides studying for my Torts exam on Mon.

...and my political partner-in-crime told me not to boo Rep. Emmanuel when he goes to speak Sat. night. I promise to behave ... ;)

Rahm Emanuel and the DCCC

Why should we in NC support the DCCC? I am not being sarcastic I really want to know? The idea of this is that folks in safe districts can spread the wealth to areas that need money to give good battle to the opposition.

Why not just keep our money in NC and give directly to the Dems in our state running for congress? Why give it to Rahm and then he and his committee spread it around to other states?

One argument is that from that vantage point, they will select the most likely to win Dems and thereby add Dems to Congress. while we may waste our donations on losing candidates in our own state.

Hm.

I believe that argument could be a very good one.But How am I to know if my judgement is worse or better than the DCCC?
so those who are going to JJ ? is Rahm coming to be the guest speaker helping Larry Kissell, or is Larry allowing him to come, helping Rahm's reputation in our state?

TurnNCBlue

Great questions

and points.

I would rather see Dems in safe districts helping other NC Dems directly. Mel Watt is farely safe, but his district isn't a big money district - kinda like the 8th. I think we have much better judgment about the candidates and the districts and we probably know where to send our money.

I think if you have limited resources, you should give to candidates in your own state - local,if you aren't comfortable with congressional districts. If you have more money to toss about, then you can spread the wealth to the DCCC and the DSCC and allow them to help Dems in other states to solidify our majorities.

Rahm is coming to help Larry. Long and short of it. He no longer heads the DCCC and he would have no other reason to head down this way than to help. I hope Larry raises lots of money.

What she said

n/t

I just got called by dccc

That is why I am wondering about this.

TurnNCBlue

They called me too.

I said, "no thanks."

It's hard to know if we have a crystal clear view of what's happening here in North Carolina, but it's gotta be clearer than what the DC crowd sees through jade colored glasses.

I think you should give to the DCCC

When all individual donations are matched 3 to 1 by congressmen in safe seats.

Yeah...I got a call last week

I thanked them and told them that at the time I was only able to give directly to our candidates here in NC. The caller sounded disappointed, but I'm sure she'll get over it. :)

Fortunately, I'm no longer angry about the fact that the DCCC only needed to contribute what would have been a tiny amount to get Larry elected.

Rahm gave LK a check today

How big, I don't know.

I agree, SD

But I think it's important that we let the DCCC and the DSCC know when we think we've got a potentially vulnerable Republican, and a potentially fantastic Democrat. It can't hurt to email the heads of those committees continuously and let them know, for instance, how vulnerable Liddy Dole is, and to remind them how close Larry came last year without their help.

It's probably coincidence, but I received an email last week from J.B. Poersch, Exec. Director of the DSCC., telling me how vulnerable Senator Cormyn of Texas is, and of course asking for money. I emailed back saying that I wanted him to know how vulnerable Dole is, and sent a link to the PPP pole. I'm hoping that this wasn't the first time they'd heard of that poll, but about three hours later, I got another email from the DSCC, referencing that poll, and talking about how vulnerable Dole is. It's probably coincidental, I know, but it has only encouraged me to keep sending these guys information that we have here that they might not have.

That said, my money will stay in NC until I see national money coming here.

Roving Reporters Report on Rove

Howdy y'all. Just thought I'd drop into the thread to let you know that Drama Queen and I just left the 11th District Republican Party convention (where District Chair David Sawyer was kind enough to extend press passes to us under the auspices of BlueNC). We interviewed a bevy of rising Republican stars and threw up into our mouths a time or two.

The full report, with video, will be out soon.

Awesome.

Can't wait.

Between this and the Civitas Coven meeting in Raleigh, the whole state has been blanketed by the Dark Side this weekend. This explains a lot of weirdness I've seen today.

My personal friend Hillary

sends me begging letters addressed to Mr. Miller Martin. I don't even open them any more. Straight to the shredder. My priorities are 1. Brad, 2. Larry, 3. John Edwards. There are some really good people out there, but I am just one little poor person.

Lovex7

You prioritize Brad over Larry?

Why in the world would you do that? :)

It was a good event

I left before the speeches though.

I have heard Rahm gave Larry a check, but I do not know that it was true. In his speech at JJ, Rahm came about as close to saying "Im sorry Larry" as he possibly could. Larry got a lot of love from the crowd at JJ though, so that was great.
