Richard Morgan

Sometimes watching the Goopers is like watching a bad sitcom. And one of the lead characters in North Carolina is Richard Morgan, who has the state Republican Party all a-twitter this week. The Pilot, a decent little paper down in Southern Pines, has this fascinating story of the current dust-up.

Morgan, the speaker pro tempore of the state House of Representatives, went out and hired a Raleigh attorney to help him in battling a state GOP campaign to elect his primary opponent, Joe Boylan, a Pinehurst businessman, in May.

The attorney, Joseph B. Cheshire V, warned state Republican Party Chairman Ferrell Blount in a letter that the party’s action to try and topple Morgan violates the state Republican Plan of Organization.

::snip::

The state Republican Party leadership wasted no time responding. The party sent out a news release Monday with the heading “Morgan hires Democrat attorney to gag his own party.”

In the release, Blount called Morgan’s hiring of Cheshire “an act of desperation” and said it was an attempt by Morgan “to scare the Republican Party into silence about his record of disloyalty by hiring a high-priced Democrat attorney.” Blount also said “his choice of attorneys proves Morgan is in bed with the Democrats.”

Morgan scoffed at Blount’s assertions Tuesday morning. In a brief telephone interview, Morgan said he hired Cheshire because he “wanted the best” attorney to represent his interests. Morgan said that longtime Republican Congressman Charles Taylor hired Cheshire to represent him against charges from Democrats.

“He (Taylor) hired Joseph Cheshire because he wanted the best representation he could get,” Morgan said. He added that Taylor has been “under siege by Democrats.” Cheshire is a registered Democrat who represents both Democrats and Republicans.

::snip::

A dispute between Morgan and the state party leadership came to a head last year when the state executive committee adopted a resolution authorizing party chairman to support any Republican opponent of Morgan. At the time, Boylan had announced plans to seek the GOP nomination for the District 52 seat in the state House. Boylan said Tuesday that he has not seen the letter Cheshire sent to state party leaders.

If you're looking for a laugh, go read the whole Pilot story. It's the best explanation I've seen yet of how degenerate the Grand Old Party has become. Richard Morgan actually thinks associating himself with Charles Taylor (Crook #1) and Jim Black (soon to be Crook #2) helps strengthen his position. Gotta love watching wingers self-destruct.

PS. I know Morgan will survive all this in some fashion. After all, that's the only thing he actually cares about is sustaining his own personal power. Typical Republican.

A typical Republican.

thanks for the laugh

The comments were hilarious. I especially loved the one about Morman and Mormaids.

Chairman Marfusssssss

Rather than criticize my opinion about the Bible as a magnificent work of fiction, perhaps you'd consider proving me wrong? I truly would appreciate that. You see, I once was found but now I'm lost.

You want to know why?

For one reason. Your Jesus has allowed his followers to create too much misery in his name. He has condoned too much hate by people like you. It was more than I could stomach.

A

PS I speak for no other Democrat. I am on the progressive fringe. Just like you are on the theocratic fringe. Or as my wonderful daughter so often says, takes one to know one.

Stop by the Chairman's place and say "Hi." Invite him over for a conversation.

Here's what I just wrote

I will start taking wingnuts seriously when they learn some basic grammar. The AP Style book that any journalist has will tell you that it is Democratic, not Democrat. That is basic, basic grammar.

Also, by copying Anglico's entire post you violated copyright law. Of course, when Republicans start following basic rules of grammar AND obeying the law, hell will freeze over.

Now, you two play nice!

I really would like it if the Chairman felt comfortable stopping in for a chat. If what he wrote about A's post is the worst attack we ever get..., well, it won't be.

If I'm coming off as grouchy, it is because I'm fiercly sleep deprived but trying to stay awake until a normal bed time.

Yes, papa, we'll be good

I'm sorry I was mean to the nasty man.

Damn devil.

I hate it when he does crap like that.

I actually hope he'll come by, too.

We do way too much talking to ourselves and I honestly would love for el Chairman to visit and share his points of view.

The weird thing is, we probably agree about lots of stuff . . . well, maybe not lots, but at least a few. I think the big difference is in the are of personal freedom. Evangelicals are committed to spreading the good word and you are wrong until you agree with them. If not wrong, at least lost. That arrogance is what slays me.

So, I will paste it here:

Mr. Chairman,
I think you ducked the discussion on what your followers have done in the name of God and Jesus.

I'll ask it another way. How many times does Jesus specifically discuss preemptive war, or attacking another without provocation? Is it ever mentioned by Jesus or in the New Testament as an acceptable Christian thing to do?

How many times does Jesus discuss raising up those who are less fortunate? I think that is in the Beatitudes, right? So, pretty important to Christians.

Given these two Biblical facts, how you do support a war in Iraq while children suffer right here in North Carolina, because there is no money for them, only for war?

How do you support a war in Iraq while World War II veterans have their medical care slashed, because there is no money for them, only for war?

How do you support a war in Iraq while infants go hungry and families live in the streets, because there is no money for them, only for war?

How do you support Osama bin Laden still running free, the very face of evil, because there is no money to catch him, only for war in Iraq?

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

They're open Robert, but they are very hard to find

Click on the number 11 comments...actually it may say 12 now. It's at the bottom of his post.

Wayul....he mixed Anglico and me up....he thinks I'M not a Christian...well that just flipped my burger. This is my reply.

Chairman - I think you are mixing up your commenters. I am a practicing Baptist and was baptized in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit in June of 1973. I have accepted Christ as my Saviour and I follow his teachings as closely as I can. My problem is with those people who call themselves Christians, yet fail to follow in Christ's footsteps. It's hypocrisy at its worst and I'm sick of people like you making Christians all over the world look so unChristian. I'm surprised at how loosely you choose to interpret God's word and Christ's teachings. Have you ever read the ancient scriptures in their original Hebrew? Are you aware of the different translations that are possible for many passages in the Bible? Those of us who have opened our minds, hearts and lives to the true meaning of Christ and have chosen to actually study the Bible and its history are far better prepared to walk with Christ, yet we deliberately choose not to judge those who only speak in the name of Christ and don't serve him, since we know that this is reserved for God and God alone. That, my friend you will find in the Bible and it is not left open for interpretation like so many other passages that people like you bastardize for your own purposes.

I, my friend, walk with Christ. I haven't found you among those who walk with us, but I will keep looking. Maybe you're just lagging behind.

This is great!

A right wing moron and a left wing twit having a pissing contest about faith and religion.

Great indeed!

But which one are you . . . the moron or the twit? I couldn't quite figure that out.

ahhhhh 1976

Your anger is so tiresome. You're pissed at the right, you're pissed at the left and you never seem to be able to do anything but call people names. Since you have never met me and we've never spoken at length, I won't be insulted by your name calling. I will add, though that if you would take a moment and pull your head out of your ass you might be able to put a couple of coherent thoughts together.

So Ann Coulter is a man?

You've solved the mystery....
