Veterans (finally) against Trump

Many longtime BlueNC community members are veterans, some are still in the reserves. And every single one of us is pissed off about the support Trump has gotten from the military. In fact, I've lost scores of friends from my days at the US Naval Academy because of their blind support for the worst president in history.

This story has legs. But I was gratified today to see that the story about Trump's disdain for veterans, especially those who died in war, is finally catching on. It was a well-sourced article in the Atlantic that broke the logjam. You can find it here: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/09/trump-americans-who-died-at-war-are-losers-and-...

Trump has been, for the duration of his presidency, fixated on staging military parades, but only of a certain sort. In a 2018 White House planning meeting for such an event, Trump asked his staff not to include wounded veterans, on grounds that spectators would feel uncomfortable in the presence of amputees. “Nobody wants to see that,” he said.
Trump, as expected, has pushed back furiously, claiming he never said what he said.

In response to the article, there has been a shit storm of lies coming from the GOP because, well, what else are they going to do? Everyone knows Trump is a despicable coward, no one really believes anything he says. And his supporters don't care either way. If Trump can get away with making things up, they're good with that. As long as he's sticking it to the liberals.

Trump's own words may finally be catching up with him. Many of his supporters are more than a little upset with his disparaging comments. Now if they can just bring themselves to vote for Biden ... or at least not vote for Trump. Maybe we'll see a little bit of justice after all.

The troops want a new commander in chief

It came as a shock, then, when the Military Times reported on Monday: “In the latest results — based on 1,018 active-duty troops surveyed in late July and early August — nearly half of respondents (49.9 percent) had an unfavorable view of the president, compared to about 38 percent who had a favorable view. Questions in the poll had a margin of error of up to 2 percent.” Forty-two percent had a very unfavorable view of President Trump. The bottom line: “Among active-duty service members surveyed in the poll, 41 percent said they would vote for Biden, the Democratic nominee, if the election was held today. Only 37 percent said they plan to vote to re-elect Trump.”
