I know. No one was speaking of Smithfield. But there is some potentially good news for working people today.

The workers at Smithfield have been actively denied a union for 14 years. Cherie Berry has sat idly by while the injury count has piled up; now these workers have a body through which they can win reform.

Frankly Smitty, it takes a lot to get on the NLRB's bad side. They're notorious for finding in favor of management, but Smithfield gave them no recourse.

Weekend round up, eh? Here goes ...
Hey folks,
Nice visit yesterday with my brother. After spending most of Saturday and 700+ dollars on a busted well pump, I spent today catching up and getting things done. Did wash, watched 15 wild turkeys scratch around in the yard for about 30 min, and got the green gunk off the front of my house. In between scrubbing and rinsing sessions I cooked up a couple loaves of bread. It's not done yet, so cross your fingers, but it smells wonderful.
So I have a new well pump, a cleaner house and some bread in the oven. Just wanted to share. :)

That's quite a weekend.
I've read two novels, beginning to end. Imagine just sitting on your butt and reading for two days! Heaven.
We did some shopping, too.

I am 20 pages away from finishing Grapes of Wrath and hope to get to it later tonight. What novels did you read?
I am heating some olive oil with finely sliced garlic to use as a dip for my bread (which came out pretty good).
Shopping, why would that be significant? Is there some holiday approaching? ;)
Great novel, wish I had more
Great novel, wish I had more time to read. I really liked "The Winter of Our (or was it my) Discontent".
2 mysteries
The first was one called "Doggone", Gabriella Herkert - light and fluffy, but enjoyable. I still couldn't sleep, so I started The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold. Not so light and fluffy, but incredibly well-written and readable.
I read Grapes of Wrath years ago. It was very good; I might pick it up again. One I won't pick up again, ever, is As I Die Reading, by Faulkner. Ugh. (Why I felt the need to mention that, I don't know.)
I wish I had an extra copy
of Undeserved Trust lying around so I could give it to you. I'm...sort of boycotting my publisher, like that's going to run them out of business or something.
If you made it to the end of my book, you would have a greater appreciation of just about anything you tried to read after. ;)
