They know Clay Aiken in Northern Virginia

Just got back from a five-day trip to NoVa/DC. I was there for a big birthday party that my son-in-law was giving for my daughter. One of their friends (my daughter had already told me that he was a Democrat) started talking to me. I had met him before and knew he was one of the favorites in the neighborhood......and everybody thinks he is super smart. He asked what district I was in in North Carolina. I told him District 2, and so he asked me who was running in the district, When I told him it was Clay Aiken, he gave me a big high five. Then he announced to everyone that I was supporting Clay Aiken who was an all around super star. Then he said. "and his opponent is Renee Ellmers who told the Congress that they needed to dumb down their message so women could understand. "District 2" meant nothing, but the names meant everything. He didn't have Renee's statement exactly right, but close enough. I knew he very aware.

Rectangular Round Table

Clay Aiken held a round table discussion Wednesday with people who are concerned about what needs to be done for the young soldiers who get out of the military with no skills and no job. Oh, they know how to play war games, but we are talking about in the real world. Many of them have injuries or mental health issues and may not be able to be retrained. Many are homeless. We owe all of them, and everybody at that table knows that. There were two retired generals, two retired colonels, two union members who work at Fort Bragg, several elected officials, business owners, etc. It was an impressive group. Some people had very good ideas on how to train them for new skills when they are discharged. They had our backs for a long time, and now we need to have their's.

Endorsements, endorsements, endorsements

Spent most of the day with the NC NOW women in Raleigh working on endorsements. Some have been decided already, some still need to be interviewed and we are still thinking about some. We have some great candidates, and a lot of them are women. Each candidate is known by at least one member in our group. No strangers among the candidates. That makes it easier, but not easy. We did a lot of laughing. Not at anybody, but at funny things that have happened during this campaign far. Laughter cleanses your soul.

I've checked in with Facebook this evening to see what Clay has been up to. As usual, he is everywhere. Wonder what his sugar intake is. I have to interview tomorrow, and I need to try to track down Clay. That means I need to a least read the paper before I go to case somebody asks me something that was in the paper today.

My GPS hates me, but guess what, I know Raleigh without you.

On Wednesday I decided to use my GPS to go to Clay Aiken's shindig at the Southland Ballroom. I lived in Raleigh for years, but it has been awhile. Since I was traveling alone, I thought it would make me feel more secure. When I was about half way there it started giving me directions from my house in Fayetteville again. That was kinda the end of the security part. After driving for about 45 minutes and it didn't get any better, I put the GPS in my trunk so I wouldn't throw it out the window. We won't even talk about why I was traveling alone.

The first people I talked to were Nick and Tucker. Nick said he never uses a GPS. I might give it another chance. It worked fine for a long time, but the trust is gone.

Flipping my shirt: Miller to Aiken

I went to visit my mother this afternoon at the retirement center. My tee shirt said "Team Miller" on the front and "Brad Miller for Congress" on the back. When I was leaving, I heard this voice coming down the hall. "What does that shirt say?" I said for her not to get excited because he wasn't running. She runs the retirement center and every time he came she would say, "Don't you leave without seeing me first." He never did even tho' she was not in his district. She started telling me that he needs to run because the country is in a mess. Finally I said, "What district are you in?" "District 2" I told her that I had just the candidate for her and she asked who it was and I said "Clay Aiken" She said "never" he was terrible and a Republican. When I explained to her that she was thinking about the wrong Aiken, she asked me to tell her about Clay. I told her as much as I could in the little time I had and asked her if she could get a group together to hear about him.

How I got here

I was going to change everything to my real name, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. Everybody knows it's Nancy Miller Martin anyway...lovex7 can go bye bye. Also everybody knows that my brother is former Congressman Brad Miller. He and I were blogging here at the same time. I just looked it up and I have been a member for more than 8 years and Brad for longer than that.. Boy, am I behind.
